Oleksandr Honobolin’s Concerto for Organ and Strings (2024) was born out of friendship and gratitude: the composer dedicated the work to renowned Vinnytsia organist Heorhiy Kurkov on the occasion of his 70th birthday. The composer notes that the piece is a living conversation about light, dignity, and spiritual resilience — a dialogue in which the organ stands as an equal partner to the string ensemble. Honobolin spoke in pre-premiere interviews about this dedication and the circumstances behind the creation of the score, emphasizing his conscious blend of tradition and modern expressiveness.
The world premiere of the Concerto took place on September 13, 2024, at the Lviv Organ Hall (performers: Heorhiy Kurkov and the Luhansk Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Ivan Ostapovych). The recording you hear today was made during that concert.
The three-movement Concerto unfolds as a dramaturgy of “breathing” between the organ and strings: from transparent, chorale-like expanses to pulsating chamber dialogues and climaxes imbued with unmistakable symphonic drive. The work combines accessible harmony and memorable themes with the interplay of the organ’s timbral light and shadow.

The first movement is dramatic and action-driven, marked by bold gestures and emotional resolve.

 The second movement invites stillness — an enveloping, at times almost “cosmic,” calm.
 The finale, played attacca, opens with a striking solo cadenza and then sweeps the listener into the waves of a symbolic “sea of life.”

In the year since its premiere, the Concerto has been performed repeatedly in cities across Ukraine, proving the strong demand and stage vitality of such repertoire. Audiences have embraced the work for its contemporary, accessible musical language and its moving, heartfelt melodies.

Концерт для органа та струнних (2024) Олександра Гоноболіна народився з дружби та подяки: композитор присвятив його відомому органістові з Вінниці Георгію Куркову до його 70-річного ювілею. Автор наголошує, що твір — це жива розмова про світло, гідність і духовну витривалість, у якій орган постає рівноправним співрозмовником ансамблю струнних. Про присвяту Куркову й обставини появи партитури композитор розповідав у передпрем’єрних інтерв’ю, підкреслюючи свідоме поєднання традиції й сучасної виразності. 

Світова прем’єра Концерту відбулася 13 вересня 2024 року у Львівському органному залі (виконавці: Георгій Курков та Академічний симфонічний оркестр Луганської обласної філармонії під орудою Івана Остаповича). Тоді ж було здійснено запис твору. 

Тричастинний Концерт вибудувано як драматургію "дихання" між органом і струнним оркестром: від прозорих, хорально-інтонаційних розлогих площин — до пульсуючих, камерних  діалогів і кульмінацій із відчутною симфонічною інерцією. Твір поєднує зрозумілу гармонію та приємні теми із світлотінню тембрових регістрів органа. Перша частина досить драматична та дієва, з помітною різкістю та емоційною рішучістю. Друга частина змушує сповільнитися і відчути огортаючий, часом навіть дещо “космічний” спокій. Фінал attaca розпочинається показною каденцію соліста, а опісля захоплює у вир хвиль “житейського моря”. 

Протягом року з дня премʼєри Концерт Олександра Гоноболіна неодноразово звучав і в інших містах України, продемонструвавши неабияку затребуваність та сценічний потенціал такого репертуару. Твір полюбився слухачам своєю сучасною демократичною музичною мовою та зворушливими мелодіями, які торкаються душі.
