Alexander Saratsky is a prominent figure in contemporary Ukrainian music: a composer and pianist whose work is formed at the intersection of academic tradition, jazz and pop culture. His musical language is recognizable due to his freedom of thought, rhythmic energy and melodiousness. In the symphonic genre, Saratsky demonstrates the ability to combine classical forms with immediacy and sincerity, addressing the listener in a modern and open language.

We are pleased to present in the Ukrainian Live project the Fifth of six symphonies by Alexander Saratsky performed by the Liatoshynskyi Capella Orchestra of National House of Music under the direction of conductor Bohdan Plish. The recording was made during the premiere performance of the work in the Column Hall of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine in February 2025, and today it is available in the Ukrainian Live Classic mobile app, revealing to listeners a rich palette of emotions and the composer's characteristic style.

The first part of the symphony resembles a kaleidoscope of good memories that arise in memory. The motley form brings it closer to film music, accompanying dynamic shots and episodes of different moods, while jazz rhythms and characteristic roll calls of brass instruments add a noticeable American flair to the music. The second part is the lyrical center of the entire symphony in the form of a mini-concert for cello and orchestra. However, the idea of the part is not a concert competition-rivalry, but rather an emotional expression: frank cello monologues and unbridled solo lines that involuntarily resemble a person's attempts to hold on in the stormy sea of life. For the symphonic scherzo, Alexander Saratsky chose the form of a rondo, which wittily emphasizes the cheerful and somewhat ironic nature of the part. And the finale of Symphony No. 5 with allusions to each of the previous sections becomes a logical conclusion to the work. Its leading triadic measure, on the one hand, adds excitement and impetuosity, and on the other, evokes a feeling of dizzying repetition, like riding a shining fairground carousel.

Alexander Saratsky's Symphony No. 5 appears as a holistic and at the same time multi-layered musical composition, which combines light nostalgia, inner movement and vital energy. Its cinematography, contrast and openness to various stylistic influences create the effect of a living flow of images: from personal memories to bright, almost festive emotional outbursts. This is music that easily communicates with the listener, while maintaining the depth and originality of the author's idea.

Олександр Саратський – яскрава постать сучасної української музики: композитор і піаніст, чия творчість формується на перетині академічної традиції, джазу та естрадної культури. Його музична мова впізнавана завдяки свободі мислення, ритмічній енергії та мелодійності. У симфонічному жанрі Саратський демонструє здатність поєднувати класичні форми з безпосередністю та щирістю, звертаючись до слухача сучасною й відкритою мовою.

З приємністю презентуємо в проєкті Ukrainian Live Пʼяту з шести симфоній Олександра Саратського у виконанні Liatoshynskyi Capella Orchestra Національного будинку музики під керівництвом дириґента Богдана Пліша. Запис було здійснено під час премʼєрного виконання твору у Колонній залі Національної філармонії України в лютому 2025 року, і сьогодні він доступний у мобільному застосунку Ukrainian Live Classic, відкриваючи слухачам багату палітру емоцій і характерний стиль композитора.

Перша частина симфонії нагадує калейдоскоп добрих спогадів, які виринають у памʼяті. Строката форма наближає її до кіномузики, що супроводжує динамічні кадри та різнонастроєві епізоди, а джазові ритми і характерні переклички духових додають музиці помітного американського флеру. Друга частина – ліричний центр всієї симфонії у формі мініконцерту для віолончелі з оркестром. Щоправда, ідеєю частини є не концертне змагання-суперництво, а радше емоційне висловлювання: відверті віолончельні монологи і нестримні сольні репліки, що мимоволі нагадують спроби людини втриматися у бурхливому житейському морі. Для симфонічного скерцо Олександр Саратський обрав форму рондо, яка дотепно підкреслює веселий та дещо іронічний характер частини. А фінал Симфонії №5 з алюзіями на кожен з попередніх розділів стає логічним підсумком твору. Його провідний тридольний розмір з одного боку додає піднесення та порив, а з іншого викликає відчуття запаморочливої повторюваності, ніби катання на сяючій ярмарковій каруселі.

Симфонія №5 Олександра Саратського постає як цілісна й водночас багатошарова музична композиція, у якій поєднуються світла ностальгія, внутрішній рух і життєва енергія. Її кінематографічність, контрастність і відкритість до різних стилістичних впливів створюють ефект живого потоку образів: від особистих спогадів до яскравих, майже святкових емоційних сплесків. Це музика, що легко комунікує зі слухачем, зберігаючи при цьому глибину й оригінальність авторського задуму.
