On October 15th, the mobile application featuring Ukrainian classical music, Ukrainian Live Classic, celebrates its third anniversary. It was created to make Ukrainian music sound throughout the world.
The project operates within the framework of the strategy for popularizing Ukrainian classical music, implemented by the team of the Lviv Organ Hall.
"Today, as Ukraine is fighting against russian invaders and defending its national and cultural identity, Ukrainian musicians, composers, and cultural managers cannot stand aside. Therefore, while upholding universal values of freedom, we will speak about Ukrainian culture as loudly as possible," declares the project's team.
Ukrainian Live Classic was launched in 2020 and immediately presented the works of over fifty Ukrainian composers from the 17th to the 21st century. Today, the application offers over 250 albums by 107 Ukrainian composers. Thousands of users from all over the world listen to Ukrainian classical music and watch video concerts daily. The Ukrainian Live Classic app is available for download on Google Play Market and the Apple Store, and it is completely free for users without any advertisements.
The mobile app UL Classic is simple, modern, and user-friendly.
"For the first time in the history of Ukrainian music, we have created a large public source where high-quality recordings of Ukrainian classical music from ancient times to the present are available for free," emphasize the project's founders Ivan Ostapovych and Taras Demko.
The app attracts users with its stylish design and ease of use, and it has a clear structure. Users can choose music by style, era, composer, or listen to mood-based playlists and albums.
Ukrainian Live Classic is also a multimedia platform with professional articles and annotations about Ukrainian composers and their works, from the Middle Ages to the present. It includes original cover designs, painted portraits of composers, interviews, and brief biographies of artists.
The project is bilingual, with the English primary version. Ukrainian Live Classic opens up Ukrainian classical music not only to Ukrainians. "We firmly believe that our Ukrainian musical heritage is alive and unique, rich and beautiful, and it needs to be discovered by the whole world," is the slogan declared by the creators on the project's website.
Since the full-scale invasion of russia in Ukraine, the project has taken on another direction - Ukrainian Scores. It is the largest database of Ukrainian classical music, featuring over 3,500 works by Ukrainian composers in various genres, styles, and eras, from the Renaissance to contemporary music.
Over 2,000 requests for sheet music have already been fulfilled from all corners of the world. Ukrainian music has been performed live from Ukrainian Scores notes in the United States, Sweden, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, Australia, and many other countries.
All copyright for the works is preserved. The sheet music in the Ukrainian Scores database is distributed for educational and enlightenment purposes, and a significant portion is available for free distribution and performance.
The project's team continues to explore unknown aspects of Ukrainian musical culture and gives a second life to works that were forgotten or prohibited during the Soviet era. Thanks to this work, the Lviv Organ Hall has seen the live performance of 13 works by Ukrainian composers in the "Historical Concerts" series over the year. New names in Ukrainian music have been discovered. High-quality audio and video recordings have been made from these concerts, many of which are already available in the Ukrainian Live Classic app.
It's worth noting that the project is implemented on a volunteer basis. You can support the Ukrainian music promotion in the world on the BuyMeACoffee and Patreon.
