Experience a burst of vibrant impressions from the fresh and bright Concerto-Collage for Symphony Orchestra by the young generation contemporary Kharkiv composer, Volodymyr Bohatyrov.

The Concerto-Collage was created by the composer in the summer of 2021 as a diploma work. Volodymyr Bohatyrov mentions that this piece marks the conclusion of his phase as a student-composer and a kind of “farewell” to the postmodern stylistic approach. The concerto consists of three movements (Scherzo, Barcarole, and Toccata). The collage aspect is not achieved through explicit themes or quotations but rather through allusions to certain intonational and genre models. Contrasting elements and expressive means are noticeable not only between the movements of the cycle but also within each of them. “Apart from the stylistic features of impressionism, neoclassicism, and neo-romanticism in the melody and texture of the Concerto, one can see flirtations with the figures of socialist realism,” says Volodymyr Bohatyrov, “this is somewhat a consequence of the departure of compositional thinking from the narratives of the Soviet legacy.”

The world premiere of the Concerto-Collage took place on April 14, 2024, at the Lviv Organ Hall, where alongside Volodymyr Bohatyrov’s piece, there were also striking premieres of his Kharkiv colleague Dmytro Malyi.

Концерт-колаж був створений композитором улітку 2021 року як дипломна робота. Володимир Богатирьов говорить, що цей твір став підсумком його етапу як композитора-учня і своєрідним “прощанням” зі стилістикою постмодернізму. Концерт складається з трьох частинах (Скерцо, Баркароли і Токати). Колажність тут реалізована не за рахунок явних тем чи цитат, а скоріше алюзій на певні інтонаційні і жанрові моделі. Контрасні елементи та виразові засоби помітні не лише між частинами циклу, але й всередині кожної з них.  “Крім стильових ознак імпресіонізму, неокласицизму і неоромантизму у мелодиці та фактурі Концерту можна розгледіти загравання з фігурами соцреалізму – говорить Володимир Богатирьов, – це є ніби наслідком відходу композиторського мислення від наративів радянського спадку.”

Світова премʼєра Концерту-колажу відбулася 14 квітня 2024 року у Львівському органному залі, де поруч з твором Володимира Богатирьова звучали яскраві премʼєрий його харківського колеги Дмитра Малого.
