Choral music in Ukraine is a unique and recognizable phenomenon on the cultural map of the world. Let's imagine its history as a chronological timeline with many key points, each of which is associated with specific historical and artistic periods, styles, and names.

On this timeline, an important milestone, perhaps even an exclamation mark, is the artistic heritage of composer Hanna Havrylets (1958-2022), without whom it is impossible to imagine choral performance. Working in various genres, from chamber instrumental pieces and songs to large-scale stage works, Havrylets was able to fully express the magnitude of her talent and the breadth of her soul through choral music, which, without exaggeration, is the hallmark of Ukrainian choral culture. Respect for ancient spiritual traditions, exploration of authentic musical sources, a vibrant national style, originality and professionalism, sensitivity and emotion—all these qualities are inherent in the works of the composer written for the choir.

Amidst the shocks and struggles of life, we all seek wisdom, support, peace, and harmony. That is why we turn to eternal truths to find answers to our questions. Hanna Havrylets' spiritual music serves as a guide to this special state. The magic of polyphony in her scores uplifts and comforts, moves and energizes. Havrylets' music enhances the power of the prayer texts written hundreds and thousands of years ago and leaves no listener indifferent, regardless of their place of residence or language of communication—this is the planetary scale of her talent.

The album "Psalms and Prayers" is the second release of the composer's works in the Ukrainian Live project. The spiritual compositions presented in this album were performed at the concert of the Kyiv Chamber Choir in April 2023 at the St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv—the main Orthodox shrine of Ukraine. The concert was dedicated to the bright memory of Hanna Havrylets, who prematurely passed away on the third day of russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The author and conductor of the program is the artistic director of the Kyiv Choir, Mykola Hobdych. It is well-known that Mykola Hobdych and the Kyiv Choir had a longstanding friendship and collaboration with Hanna Havrylets: the ensemble was the first to perform most of the composer's works, and their performances and recordings of Havrylets' music remain exemplary. During Hanna Havrylets' lifetime, no premiere performed by the Kyiv Choir took place without her personal participation. Therefore, the exceptional value of the interpretations by the Kyiv Choir lies in their complete adherence to the composer's intentions, embodying the musical ideas in their original form and demonstrating the highest level of emotional depth and professionalism.

Хорова музика України – самобутнє і впізнаване явище на культурній мапі світу. Уявімо її історію як хронологічну пряму з багатьма ключовими точками, кожна з яких, повʼязана з певними історичними та мистецькими періодами, стилями та іменами. На такій прямій важливою крапкою, а, можливо, і знаком оклику, постає творчість композиторки Ганни Гаврилець (1958-2022), без якої неможливо уявити сучасного хорового виконавства. Працюючи у різноманітних жанрах – від камерно-інструментальних творів та пісень до масштабних сценічних дійств – величину таланту і широту своєї душі найбільш повно Гаврилець вдалося проявити саме в хоровій музиці, яка, без перебільшення, є візитівкою хорової культури України. Повага до давніх духовних традицій, звернення до автентичних музичних витоків, яскравий національний стиль, оригінальність і професіоналізм, чуттєвість та емоційність – усе це притаманно творам композиторки, написаних для хору.

Музика Ганни Гаврилець примножує силу молитовних текстів, написаних сотні і тисячі років тому й не залишає байдужим жодного слухача, незалежно від місця його проживання чи мови спілкування – у цьому полягає планетарний масштаб її таланту.

Альбом “Псалми і молитви” – другий реліз творів композиторки у проєкті Ukrainian Live. Представлені у ньому духовні композиції були виконані на однойменному концерті камерного хору “Київ” у квітні 2023 році в Софійському Соборі у Києві – головній православній святині України. Концерт був присвячений світлій памʼяті Ганни Гаврилець, яка передчасно відійшла у вічність на третій день повномасштабного вторгнення росії в Україну 2022 року. Автор і дириґент програми – художній керівник хору “Київ“ Микола Гобдич. Відомий факт, що Миколу Гобдича та хор “Київ” з Ганною Гаврилець поєднувала багаторічна дружба та співпраця: колектив був першовиконавцем більшості творів композиторки, а його виконання й записи музики Гаврилець досі залишаються еталонними. За життя Ганни Гаврилець, жодна премʼєра у виконанні “Києва” не обходилась без її особистої участі. Таким чином, виняткова цінність інтерпретацій хору “Київ“ у тому, що вони цілковито відповідають задуму композиторки, втілюють музичні ідеї в авторському вигляді, а також демонструють найвищий рівень емоційності та професіоналізму.
