Serhii Leontiev. Biography
Serhii Leontiev (1991, Kaniv) is a Ukrainian composer and Candidate of Art Studies. He is a laureate of the Levko Revutskyi Prize (2019), a member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists (USA, 2024), the American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers (USA, 2025), the National Union of Composers of Ukraine (since 2017), and the Association of Electroacoustic Music of Ukraine (since 2016).
In 2015, he completed his Master’s degree in Composition (composition class of Professor Ihor Shcherbakov; orchestration class of Professor Lesia Dychko), and in 2018 he completed his postgraduate studies at the Department of Music Theory of the National Music Academy of Ukraine (academic supervisor — Mykola Kovalinas, Candidate of Art Studies).
He is a recipient of the Presidential Scholarship of Ukraine for young writers and artists in the fields of music, theatre, visual arts, choreography, pop and circus arts, and cinema (2018, 2019); a scholarship holder of the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage programme Gaude Polonia (2016); a finalist of the international film composers’ competition at the Krakow Film Music Festival (2020); a winner of the British Council and Dovzhenko Centre programme Envision Sound (2018); and a participant of the Union of Composers of Lithuania programme Druskininkai Artists Residence (2013).
In 2016, he undertook an internship at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (Poland), studying in the class of Professor Marek Toporowski. As a harpsichordist and organist, he has performed in France, Austria, Poland, and Ukraine.
Serhii Leontiev is the composer of music for feature, documentary, and animated films, as well as the author of scholarly articles devoted to musical composition in narrative cinema. He studied film music with renowned composers Ihor Stetsiuk, Alla Zahaikevych, Richard Bellis, Evan Evans, and Michael Price, and participated in masterclasses by world-famous film composers Alexandre Desplat, Danny Elfman, Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell, Heitor Pereira, and Eduard Artemyev.
The composer’s creative output includes works in various genres: chamber-instrumental and symphonic compositions, choral miniatures, electroacoustic music, and popular music. His works are performed in Ukraine, the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Austria, Germany, Poland, Lithuania, and China, and are presented at festivals such as Musical Premieres of the Season, EM-Visia, Two Days and Two Nights of New Music, Farbotony, Book Arsenal, and Silent Nights. His music is broadcast on television and radio and performed on concert stages by leading Ukrainian ensembles, including the National Honoured Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the National Ensemble Kyiv Soloists, the National Soloists Ensemble Kyiv Camerata, the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, the Academic Chamber Orchestra Virtuosi of Lviv, the State Academic Pop and Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Academic Chamber Choir Khreshchatyk, Sed Contra Ensemble, and others.
