Valentyn Bibik is the foundation, and so to speak, the base of the Ukrainian avant-garde. Bibik is a world-class composer. He was born and studied in Kharkiv, where he celebrated the premieres of his works and worked as a professor at the Art Institute.
Like all composers of the avant-garde generation of the sixties, Valentyn Bibik was often "whipped" by the authorities of the time - his music was harshly criticized. The insulting and condemning label "avant-garde" sounded like a sentence. When the officials heard the composer's name, they were very cautious, besides, they were outraged by the composer's lack of patriotic songs "for the glory of the party", and his interest in forbidden topics and poets.
Bibik did not work with film music either, and only his opera "The Run" is connected with the theater - it is indeed one of Bibik's most important works. The composer never got to see its full performance during his lifetime (this happened only in 2010 at the Kyiv Philharmonic), but in 1972, immediately after its completion, together with his wife Larysa in the local theater, they sang the entire opera, which was its only performance. After that, Valentyn lost his voice and could not speak for a week.
However, the composer's productivity throughout the years was extremely high - it did not depend on external life circumstances.
Kharkiv was the city of his love and inspiration. However, he ended his life in Tel Aviv, Israel - that was fate. But according to the words of the composer's daughter Victoria, Valentyn Bibik forever remained a Ukrainian composer, he always emphasized this and felt that way.

Як і всі композитори покоління шістдесятників-авангардистів, зі сторони тогочасної влади Валентина Бібіка частенько «шмагали» — його музика зазнавала різкої критики, а образливо-засуджуючий ярлик «авангардист» звучав як вирок. Коли чиновники чули імʼя композитора, то насторожувалися, до того ж їх обурювала відсутність у композитора патріотичних пісень «на славу партії», його інтерес до заборонених тем і поетів.
Не працював Бібік і з кіномузикою, а з театром пов’язана лише його опера «Біг» — один з найвагоміших творів Бібіка. ЇЇ повноцінного виконання за свого життя композитор так і не дочекався (це сталося лише у 2010 році у Київській філармонії), проте в 1972 році, відразу після написання, разом зі своєю дружиною Ларисою у локальному театрі вони єдиний раз заспівали всю оперу цілком. Після цього Валентин втратив голос, тиждень не міг розмовляти.
Проте продуктивність композитора в усі роки була надзвичайно високою – вона не залежала від зовнішніх життєвих обставин, що далеко не завжди сприяли спокійній регулярній роботі.
Харків був містом його кохання та натхнення. Проте закінчив своє життя він у ізраїльському Тель-Авіві — така вже на це була доля. Та зі слів дочки композитора Вікторії, Валентин Бібік назавжди залишився українським композитором, він завжди наголошував на цьому і відчував себе саме таким.
