Ukrainian musical art, as an integral part of the European cultural heritage, has a rich and long history of development and consists of numerous composers' personal life stories, influences, schools, and artistic connections. The fact that so many composers have been working in global trends and all possible genres proves the high professional level of Ukrainian composers. Exploring new styles and techniques and the bold approbation of new genres are inherent even to artists of rather conservative views.

The visions and ideas of the composer Vitaliy Kyreiko can hardly be called conservative. Still, loyalty to traditions and attachment to the classical romantic layer of music was his peculiar creative credo. He was not afraid of being himself and for that reason chose his own path, and even more — several completely new paths.

One of them was the creation of the first symphoniette in Ukraine, in 1971. Cyclical works in this genre became most widespread in the 20th century. Therefore, the "birth" of the symphoniette in the early 1970s, which absorbed many national features (such as lyricism, contrast, and the use of characteristic melodic inflections), became a manifestation of the logic and at the same time progressiveness of the Kyiv school of composers. For the "small symphony", the composer chose a small instrumental setting - a string orchestra, whose timbral homogeneity and flexibility perfectly fit the chosen genre.

The work is not overloaded with internal conflicts. Instead, the musical canvas unfolds gradually: from the most dramatic first part with the introduction of Andante mesto (slowly, sadly) through the dynamization of the symphony, the symphony comes to light and cheerful finale.

Kyreiko`s Symphoniette will make an extremely positive impression on the listener because it radiates light and positivity. Such music is an excellent example of the fact that a traditional, academic approach to creativity can still lead to an interesting result when it comes to the true innate talent of the composer.

Українське музичне мистецтво як невідʼємна частина європейської культурної спадщини має багату і довгу історію формування, основу якої складають різносплетіння композиторських впливів, шкіл і творчих звʼязків. Відповідність глобальним тенденціям і робота в усіх можливих жанрах – це те що повсякчас підтверджувало високий професійний рівень українських композиторів. Вивчення нових стилів і технік та смілива апробація нових жанрів притаманна навіть митцям досить консервативних поглядів.

 Навряд чи бачення композитора Віталія Кирейка можна назвати консервативним, але вірність традиціям і прихильність до класично-романтичного пласту музики була його своєрідним творчим кредо. Він не боявся бути собою і рухатися своїм шляхом, ба більше — прокладати нові шляхи.

Одним з таких, було створення у 1971 році першої в Україні симфонієти. Найбільшого поширення циклічні твори у цьому жанрі набули саме у ХХ столітті. Тому “народження” на початку 70-тих років симфонієти, яка увібрала чимало національних рис (таких як ліризм, контрастність, застосування характерних мелодичних зворотів), стало виявом логічності і водночас прогресивності київської композиторської школи. Для “маленької симфонії” композитор обрав невеликий інструментальний склад – струнний оркестр, тембральна однорідність і гнучкість якого чудово пасує до обраного жанру. Твір не переобтяжений внутрішніми конфліктами. Натомість музичне полотно розгортається поступово: від найбільш драматичної першої частини зі вступом Andante mesto (повільно, сумно) шляхом динамізації симфонієта приходить до легкого і життєрадісного фіналу.  

На слухача Симфонієта Кирейка справить вкрай позитивне враження бо і сама вона буквально випромінює світло і позитив. Така музика – чудовий приклад того, що традиційний, академічний підхід до творчості усе ж може привести до не банального, цікавого результату, коли йдеться про справжній вроджений талант композитора.
