Lviv is beautiful at any time, weather and season. Some people love Christmas market time, others look forward to cozy cafes opening their shady summer terraces. The ancient history of Lviv dates back to the Middle Ages and still fascinates us with discoveries. But the most important treasure of the city is its residents - talented and extraordinary people, who value and protect the traditions of their native land. "Leopolis concerto grosso" by Viktor Kaminskyi is a sincere and exquisite confession of love for his beloved city and a dedication to its outstanding native, the composer Myroslav Skoryk.

"Leopolis concerto grosso" was written for the organ and string orchestra. It is impossible to imagine Lviv without an organ. The division into parts is quite conventional, instead, the musical concept is very symbolic. Viktor Kaminskyi used two themes of an unknown author from the tablature of the 16th century, which was decoded by Myroslav Skoryk. In this way, Kaminskyi honored the memory of Skoryk, a long-time colleague, professor, and musician known and respected by absolutely everyone. Myroslav Skoryk has become a symbol of musical Lviv and the entire country.

From the very first bars, the work captivates and intrigues the listener: the musical canvas unfolds smoothly and logically, and then goes unexpectedly and eccentrically. The same as Lviv is the most unpredictable city, the music of maestro Skoryk was just as original and fresh. The organ part is rapid and virtuoso, in the background of dense and rich orchestral fabric. Stylistically, the concerto is very diverse. The composer is telling the listener an amazing story about Lviv-Leopolis, it is a kind of excursion from the Renaissance to our present day, which is why the music constantly intertwines the ancient and the modern.

The Concerto was commissioned by the Lviv Organ Hall in 2020 and was performed as part of the cycle of organ premieres.

Leopolis concerto grosso
