...A group of Ukrainian musicians and critics, however, are working to change that, with efforts like Ukrainian Live Classic, an initiative for the promotion of Ukrainian classical music around the world. Containing the scores and sounds of Ukraine across the past several centuries, the organization’s smartphone app serves as a sort of digital repository of the country’s musical history. As the whole world has its eyes on the country, the initiative allows artists and scholars outside Ukraine to perform and learn about this music.

Тому група українських музикантів та активістів, що складається з команд Лятошинський-клубу, Ukrainian Live Classic та Українського інституту. створила проєкт Ukrainian Scores, щоб презентувати електронну бібліотеку нот українських композиторів для всього світу.

"“Panta Rhei” is one of a dozen or so works I’ve downloaded this week via Ukrainian Live Classic, an app that has collected over 200 audio and video recordings—including some archival rarities that still have the staticy whiff of a well-worn LP—representing over 60 composers from the baroque era to today. Most of the composers have a detailed biography, in Ukrainian and English, that contextualizes their work in the timeline of Ukrainian music history, often in relation to the other composers featured on the app. And it’s all free..."

What was the challenge?
Due to severe historical challenges, Ukrainian musical culture has had quite a few chances to promote its brightest names and masterpieces. In short, the artistic heritage is vast, but there are very few professional recordings of Ukrainian music.
